Ok so bought a new piston, looks great thanks for the link to the ebay add. After looking closely at the cylinder i am thinking about replacing that as well. Looking at the parts list ot looks like A-68853 and 67458-1 are used on this saw. The A-68913-1 is a non decompression 924 cylinder that might also fit. I see a 923 cylinder on ebay but it says its A-69674. Anyone selling one or can provide some guidance. Thanks

Notice that the casting number doesn't match the part number. It is a replacement cylinder for a XL923. The main difference is it has the oval exhaust port and the others the bridged port. Homelite changed all the part numbers for cylinders in the early 70’s. The reason for this was they included a gasket with each replacement cylinder. This is the reason why when looking for a cylinder the numbers don’t match the part number in a IPL.

Glad that NOS piston kit worked out for you makowicki..,starting bid I thought was very reasonable.
The eBay cylinder : A-69674 is a good option for a replacement cylinder.. although it may not be exactly the same as the original on your XL-923 ..(bridged port ?)..it should still work.
Post a pic of the original cylinder exhaust port / casting number for comparison. Also a pic of the cylinder wall damage...thanks.

I paid $35 for the saw, all else looks good other than the handle but I have a replacement. The piston/cylinder is a bummer.
