I have 4 good running super XL saws, 2 with 16" bars and 2 with 20" bars. I have a xl923 with a 24" that I am in the process of rebuilding. In the mean time I was looking at using the 24" bar on my Super XLs. the chain is 81 drives links, it will fit but the bar is adjusted way out. I was going to order a new chain at 80 links to bring it in a bit. Ita a hard nose bar. Any issues in doing this?
Also wouldn't mind getting a better 24" bar at some point.

Not sure about the XL923 but I recently purchased a new 24”bar and chain combo for a super XL from Bailey’s. Online It’s an Oregon bar, I have a NOS 24” homelite bar for a super XL but didn’t want to use it lol

Your 81 drive link chain is probably just to stretched out. A new 80 drive link chain will probably be to short.

24" seems a bit much to ask from an SXL if using all 24". I would consider using skip-tooth chain or at least 1/2 skip.

That saw is an 82 cc saw.It was made to handle a 36 in.bar.I wouldn't hesitate to put a 30 - 32 in.bar & chain on it.

OK,misunderstood.Yeah, putting a 24 in.bar on a SXL would be too much.It could probably handle a 24 in,bar for a small job,but for long term use,no way. I put a 30 in bar on my old Olympik 254F that I had 30 yrs.ago.I think that was about the same size saw as the SXL.I cut about 20 cord with it,t was a little slow going through the Dutch elm I had,but it got the job done.

I had an XL924 given to me, and the only sharp chain and bar I had laying around was a short Xl12 b/c. I was thinking it was a 12inch, but may have been 16. Kind of opposite of what you wanted to know. On the same line of thought I put a 25 inch bar on my farm boss 290, and was surprised it pulled it so well. I didn't bury it, and only used it for that on day. Sorry still didn't answer DL question.

All I’ve ever had on a super XL really is a 24” bar. My dad had one with a 24” bar for 30 years that I know of. I have one now with a 24” and it pulls it fine. I guess you just have to know when your not overloading it but I’ve been cutting in some big live oak with with no trouble. According to acres site they came with a 24” bar

I have a 32 inch bar with a skip tooth chain that I put on a Big Red, SXL, a couple of years ago to cut up an enormous cottonwood log. It was wider than the bar was long. That combination worked fine for the few hours that I ran it. Cottonwood is soft, the cutters were few, it all depends...
