Looking for a 24” guide bar for a C-72. I have a 30” with the part number 303ATMF014. I know the F014 is the mount but not sure what the number would be on a 24” bar. I found one on eBay that’s supposed to be a 25” but I’m sorta sceptical. Just want to make sure if I find one it’s correct for the saw

Just about anything that fits a Super XL up to the 750 will fit okay. The Oregon D196 or D096 style mount is what you are looking for. This image is from Mike Acre's site:

All the other "C" series saws take the F041 mount. Homelite literature states the C-72 takes the D196 mount at least for saws made in the late 70's early 80's. Do the oil holes line up with your F041 bar?

Well I have what I thought was the F014 mount and it lines up and oils perfectly. I haven’t looked at the bar off of my SXL that close yet but I know it’s a little more narrow than the one on the c-72. There were obviously many many more bar sizes than I knew of. I have an older bar for the c-72 that’s a 21” and like I mentioned there’s a bush champ by Carlton listed as 25” on eBay. It doesn’t have to be 24 but I was thinking just a little smaller than the 30” it loads her up pretty good in that live oak

Wow,I'd have thought that the C-72 woulda hauled a 30 in.chain without a problem.I put the same size on my 450,of course I haven't tried it out yet.Maybe a bit too much?

Here’s a D196 Mount and a F014 Mount side by side. With the D196 bar on top of the F014 bar, the oil holes just don’t quite line up.

Thanks for the visual comparison Greg! It's not a perfect match, but one Homelite was happy with in the later years of production for the C-72. If you can find the F014, it clearly fits better but the D196 is a reasonable substitute.

Greg you either made that master service memo list or you have one helluva photographic memory! Great info there; I've done that "flip" trick before, but the bar plates I've run across have been late enough versions that I didn't need to file anything out.

Makes one wonder if the offset tension pin was designed to incorporate more flexibility into the choices of bars.
