Happy New Year Chainsaw Gurus. I'm trying to figure out what size chain that I need for my new 23" bar for my C9. I know that it is .404 pitch, but how do I figure out the number of links that I need? Thanks in advance.

not to steal Bill's glory, but the only bar sizes I see listed are a 21'' and a 25''. The 21 incher carries 71 links of 404 the 25 incher carries 82. Since 23 is between them I would say around 76 links?

Thanks honkie ;D , You know, it may be a 21" bar, even though there is a 23 in the number. Where do you get this info? Thanks

A Older Total bar-n-chain catalog. Measure the O.A. length I think this is how homelite does it?....Some measure with the bar mounted from the saw to the nose of the bar. Its kinda weird! OldZip has a nice c9... PM him and ask what size bar he is running!?

I think my safest bet would be to take the bar in to the small engine shop and have them size up a chain. Everywhere that I read says to "count your links" for the length of chain. How in the heck can you "count your links" if there is no chain to count links?!?! Thanks for the replies.

In any event I am not quick but I try to help out when I can. I dug around and pulled out an old book Your bar was GW-23002-F1 The closest listing was GW23002-A1 which is just the later verion of the bar. It takes 71 drivers of .063 gauge .404 pitch chain and has the F014 mount. I will try to attach a chart/pic. Bill

Sorry Bill, didnt mean to offend. I am glad you found your Correct drive-link number! A 23 inch bar sounded off, odd size.
Great chart Bill. I def will save that one in the hard drive!
