You probably have a Super XL-902, way different than a XL-902am. I would work off the Super manual from LeonsYeah,we determined that it is a Super XL-902 after comparing pics & IPL's.I don't belive it's a 903 because of the color scheme - it had white paint on the recoil cover where the decals go.Of course it had no decals or ID tags.I need to know for certain what model it is when I get rings for it,if I ned rings,I' assuming I do because the compression isn't what it should be at this point. After I get the decomp valve hole plugged off I'll take another compression test & see what I get.I hope it's a lot better than 125 psi I got last time.

Measure the cylinder, 2" should be 77cc, 2-1/16" should be an 82cc, then check the manuals some of the rings should be the same on the 77cc saws and the same for 82 cc saws of the same circa/years as yours.

I thought Dan found it on a SXL-902 IPL,if I remember correctly, after I said I was leaning towards the SXL-902.Go back to my original post"Can Anyone Identify This Saw?" Tell me what you think.

The BIG problem here is I don't knowe what yr.the saw was made because the saw has NO tags.I'd like to find the previous owner & kick him in the nads! Once for how he abused the saw & a second time for taking the tags off.

Greg, Dan, or Leon know away to measure the bore through the exhaust port, that should tell the bore. You have the cylinder part number with the bore and cylinder part number you should be able to determine ring part number. Have you checked the ring part numbers on the Super XL-902 and other saws that use that same cylinder?

If you take the muffler off and use a depth gage, like the tail end of a vernier, dial, or digital caliper, you can measure the bore. With the piston down, blocking the exhaust port, measure from some surface on the outside, next to the port, to the piston. It will be something like 0.200 inches (made up number). Move the piston down out of the port and measure from the same place to the far side of the cylinder. It will be something like 2.200 inches (another made up number, both of which are sort of what I find on my XL-500). Subtract the first from the second and you have the bore, (2.000 in this case.) Nothing to it. houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/6461/identify?page=2&scrollTo=35805A cheap plastic caliper from a hardware store will get you within 1/16 of an inch, you will be able to tell one bore from the other.
