I'm looking for a coil for a 5-20L, part number should be 55403. This one is a long bar, not the 'E' shaped coil used on other models. Thanks!

Welcome to HOH! That's a tough part to find, as you've already figured out. Your best bet is to keep an eye on Ebay for a good used one or maybe a NOS one. The 5-20's and EZ's with the Wico coil aren't very common. Maybe someone else has a line on one. Good luck!

Yes indeed, welcome to the House of Homelite! Leon's advice about watching online is good but others will see your request here and respond. Stay tuned.

Hopefully someone will come along with one. Joyce had a few used ones that I bought a year or 2 ago and they turned out to not work. She was incredible to deal with, and didn't want any money for them after they turned out to be non-functional. They are hard to find. I'm still looking for one also. Thought about trying to rewind one, but not sure it'd be possible doing it by hand.

I had a friend who rewound transformers by hand, they were not potted like chainsaw coils but he did do potted stuff once in a while. He had an unknown to me solvent that would melt the potting without disolving the other plastic parts. The coil could then be easily removed from the cover. He would use a find tooth saw to cut the windings and then he counted the turns by hand. He measured the wires with a micrometer and rewound to the turns count. The coil was sealed and put back on the laminations. The only problem that I know of that is really tough is the magic solvent.
Anyone have any clues what it might have been?
I will vote for Joyce too, for anything you name, as the best person to deal with.
