Hello i have a Blue XL101 in excellent condition, but it is leaking fuel into carb area.there is a small hole next to where the carb is fastened. I purchased a NOS tank vent piece off Ebay but it is way to big for opening! ive looked on Net for a glimpse of how this vent is used but no luck!! im new to this great forum and would appreciate any help so i could get out and cut some Firewood

Hang in there dawg, I don't know the answer you seek but I know something very similar was discussed here perhaps 6 months ago. I could not find it just now, of course that does not help, BUT, someone who can help will be along.

The "hole" is part of a vent setup that screws into the fuel tank. The down side is you have to remove the throttle handle assembly to get to it. It's a two piece aluminum cylinder that has a rubber duckbill valve inside. You'll won't wind details on the IPL's as this was not meant to be serviced, but you can get it apart to replace the d-bill valve (part# 69451). Even if you buy a NOS valve assembly, odds are good the rubber is rotted after all these decades and it will need serviced as well.

I guess im really confused ill take some pics and post them including the part i bought on Ebay! but i beg the question what goes into hole that is next to carb on left side? is there supposed to be a hose going through hole and then heading as you said to a aluminum fitting with a duckbill valve? the part number i purchased was A-64311 its aluminum but doesnt appear to come apart to facilitate a duckbill valve and it certainly doesnt fit or thread into the hole im referring to! Love this Saw glad i found this Excellent sight and thank you for taking the time to reply to my question!! Cheers to both of you and Merry Christmas "Keep on Bucking" Bill up in the NW heck i can see Canada from here Lol

We're talking about the the same thing, but until you've had the saw apart, it can be kind of confusing. The part you bought is a replacement for the part on your saw that has the hole that is leaking gas. It's nothing more than a fitting that screws into the fuel tank and allows the tank to suck air in and when it is working properly, you don't have gas leaking out.
I've got a XL-101 torn down for restoration right now...give me a day or two and I'll post a video of how this part works and what you need to do to fix it. Like I mentioned in my previous post, the carburetor chamber/throttle handle need to come off to access the valve properly. From there it's pretty easy to swap out.
