I recently viewed an XL-925 on ebay that was selling"as is",without a carb.So I thought"No problem,I'll go to a couple different sites to see what carb this saw takes".I went onto Mike Acres site (I knoe sometimes his site isn't 100% accurate)& found that his site called for a Tillotso HS-151A series carb.I found one right there on ebay from Lil Red Barn, they wanted $84 for a NOS carb, but didn't have any stats on the carb.So I then went to Chainsawr site & found the same thing as Mike's site - a Tillotson HS-151A for $40,but most likely needed a carb rebuild kit (no problem).I then went onto Leon's site where he has a used carb there as well, but his carb is a Tillotson HS-151B.Maybe it was a misprint on Leon's site? Or are these 2 totally different carbs that are interchangeable? I haven't purchased the saw yet,but if I do,I'd like to get the correct carb for the saw. Thanks!

They are interchangeable. The difference between the “A” and “B” is the “B” has the latest and greatest improvements at that time.

After a little more investigation,I found that Tillotson stopped making both the HS-151A &Hs-151B carbs, but I was told that Homelite then got Walbro to make a replacement carb for them for the XL-925 & other models.Does anyone know what model that was?

I would be wary of spending 100.00 or more on a saw like this just for the fact that after you get a running carb into it, you might have another 100.00 in shoes and drum/hub, another 100.00 in a piston and/rings/gaskets/seals, plus the time rebuilding it. I'd rather spend 250-300 on a saw that was in great shape and been maintained than buy a saw that someone obviously used to rob parts from; and that is the real question, why wasn't this saw worth fixing, but was worth robbing the carb from? ? I mean if it wasn't for the shipping it might be a good deal, after the shipping I'm not so sure. Good luck
