The EZ-250 also came in a few days ago...it's in excellent shape, with relatively little paint loss for the age of the saw. Not nearly as clean as undee70ss's, but cleaner than the other one I snagged a few years ago. The tachometer wire is there, but there's one thing that confuses me about this saw. The rubber handle grips aren't shown in the IPL's as original equipment on this model, so the throttle handle must have been changed at some point. But based on my initial inspection, the change-out had to have been at least several decades ago based on the overall paint match & wear. Someone took the time to transfer the model tag over as well, which is unusual. In any case, right or wrong, I think I'll keep this setup on the saw as a "vintage conversion"! Are you sure the saw did not come with the rubber handles? The IPLs aren't always 100% inclusive on changes.

Leon, take a look at the IPL that includes the "mini" and the EZ250Auto. It shows the handle with the 2 piece rubber wrap. What year was the saw upgraded to a super and was the tachometer wire and the quick tension a later version? My first thought was, has the saw been repaired after the handle was broken. Prompts me to keep my eyes open for one of those. Have you got the saw running?

Definitely the rubber handle is a mystery. Haven't seen that many 250s, but pretty sure this is the first I've seen with the "Super" type rubber on the rear. The reed exhaust is another mystery. I've seen a few of these, but it looks like Homelite didn't use 'em for very long. Have to wonder what prompted them to try this approach in the first place.

I haven't even touched this saw yet, but I hope to soon.

You are not blind, I clanced through the other IPLs and found out that the EZ Automatic and the EZ 250 Automatic are not the same saw. IPL #24323 shows the EZ Automatic with rubber grips, but a different part number for the handle on the EZ 250 Automatic. The more that is pointed out about your saw, we see how different it is, Dan noted that the muffler is of the reed type. Odd to have a reed set up at both the intake and the exhaust at the same time. Sorry about tripping you up Leon, my bad. Really neat saw. Hope it is complete, parts may be hard to come by.

MacCulloch used a reed muffler with some of their 10 series, I just acquired a 2-10 with one, the intake is without.

I think the EZ-250 and the overseas XL-Mini's were the only models from this line to be equipped with a reed muffler. I have never read any explanation of the theory behind the reed muffler. I could speculate on back pressure, but that's all it would be is speculation.
