Here's another recent acquisition. Super low hours (the top of the piston is still shiny!) and completely original. The UT tag was removed by the previous owner, which sucks, but I know what it is based on the odd air filter. This saw is unique in that the only oil pump is the bulb on the oil cap. I"m also looking for an original bar with the "Bandit" script if anyone has one laying around. Homelite LX-30 Bandit (a) by Leon Crouch, on Flickr Homelite LX-30 Bandit (c) by Leon Crouch, on Flickr

So what can you tell me about the LX30 bandit? Where would the UT number or serial number tag be if not removed?

Cool saw. Looks like a newer version of the XL?

I acquired one today for 20 bucks. Needs cleaning but it looks like it has seen very little use. I was wanting one of the little saws like an XL or super 2 to add to my small collection. I ran across an XL and the bandit today. The XL I got was made in 1981 but I can't find a tag on the bandit. The bandit is also in much better shape. I think the XL is missing a cover or part of cover. The pic of the air filter is the XL, is there suppose to be a cover over it? I'm thinking so and assuming it would be like the one on the bandit. www.flickr.com/photos/138659658@N05/shares/31SST2

There were at least two different covers for that carb/air filter area and they are not interchangeable. The carbs are different and the choke lever rotates a different direction so the slot for it in the cover goes a different direction. I have both versions and it was the dickens to find the right one for the saw with it missing.

Dan, you are usually full of good news but knowing my luck I will be needing the one that's hard to find lol.

I'm guessing that wad of green stuff is not original air filter either?

It could be correct, lots of the replacements are green. Hard to tell from here though, it looks like Scotchbrite. Bad idea with the grit.

Yea that’s what I was thinking it didn’t look like it was meant to be an air filter. I just pulled the rope to make sure both were free and they were...so I smiled paid the young lady 20 dollars each and went on my way. I will start cleaning and inspecting this weekend

All the replacement air filters for those saws are a green open cell foam. It looks like that is the foam filter, just quite well degraded.
I have found a scotchbrite "filter" in two saws that I purchased so far. Just shook my head and said something like, "what the hell is wrong with people anymore".
