One of the 35SL's I bought on Ebay arrived today and I was pissed the moment I opened the box to find this professional packing job: Homelite 35SL Package by Leon Crouch, on Flickr Fortunately the saw wasn't damaged in transit...quite a miracle actually! I haven't done anything but dig through my parts bins to find a chain brake setup that isn't all broken up, but the saw appears to be super low hours. It's a 1992 model and my guess is the brake was broken almost immediately. I'm looking forward to getting it running! In the pics, I had just hosed it off, so the "sparkle" is light reflection. I bought a 925 off Ebay and the post office called and told me I had to pick it up. The bucking spike was sticking out of the box. Yikes! Nice 35 by the way.

Yeah bucking spikes have got to be well covered for shipping! I'm pleasantly surprised by the condition of this saw...the pics on Ebay made it look much worse off. I've wanted a 35 for years now and I'm glad this one came along!

If this is the guy I'm thinking of, I wasn't real impressed with him, doubt I would buy anything from him, just a feeling. There are a few sellers I stay away from.

The thing I've noticed though is that some of the more desirable saws end up in the hands of sellers that are just flipping product. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but when they look at something as just another piece of junk, they don't treat it the same way we would. But this was advertised as good running condition and took the time to state the oiler worked, so this seller knew better. He also described the saw as rare and even if I had sold a junker saw, I'd put some packing around it to prevent damage in transit. My guess is he was pissed that the price didn't go higher. Whatever...as long as she starts up when I test it out today, I'm over it.

The flippers and indiscriminate people who really don't love the saws that are really motivated by the need of public approval is why I don't do well on Facebook. There are some really great guys on there, but I don't know how they can hold their words with some of the stuff these guys post. One guy said he was rebuilding brand new Super XL Autos that burned up in 1984-1985 because people used 32:1 mix and he claimed the mix was supposed to be 16:1 by the sticker on the saw. First of all the guy would have been 10 years old and second when I asked him to post a picture of that mix ration on ANY post 1980 SXLAO he replied with info on pre-1964 saws and said they were the same. I couldn't get an answer to any question from many of the people on that page, but oh well, it's a free country.

Great looking saw, does not appear to need your painting skills, the paint is immaculate. Hope it runs as good as it looks.

One thing you need to keep in mind with the internet overall and especially sites like Facebook. There are a lot of people out there who make a living increasing web site exposure & activity, because it looks good to advertisers ($$$$$$). The easiest way to do this is to stir up controversy and start arguments, get the whole site buzzing and people click, clicking away. Speaking for myself, I have been much happier since I decided to stay away from Facebook and other such places. Don't watch the news on TV or Radio either, it's all "bread & circus" far as I'm concerned, and again, my world is much more peaceful. Then I come here and hang out with fine people like you guys.

Steering back back into the original post, Congratulations on the new baby Leon! Looks in great shape, despite the moronic shipping. Put a green bow on it and place it under the Xmas tree.
1992 still had the magnesium case?

Yep, some Homelite saws up through 1998 were still built with magnesium cases. I did run it for short burst this afternoon, but my progress was cut short by a work call-in. Some dipstick kids decided to bust out some windows on campus...damned kids!

Here's a video of the 35SL running...I'll get some decent pics tomorrow when the light is good. I'm stoked with this saw!

Looks good enough to put a bow on it, and place it under the Christmas tree. Many of us know that the saw is where it belongs. It's a worthy prize, congrats.
