Just spent a few hours dressing various bars for my 4 super xl saws. Lookig to buy a few new chains. All .050 3/8. Looks to be 60 tooth, 68 tooth and 72 tooth. Any recomendations where to buy the chains.

First, you count the drive links, not the tooths. What type and length of bars do you have for your saws?

Well you're likely to get a wide variety of opinions on this one! I prefer Baileys ( www.baileysonline.com/) and I've bought their house chain (Woodland Pro) before with good results. Most of the time I stick with Oregon, but it's all in your preference. I'm not sure what guide bars you are running, but Homelite bars for this saw would use 60 links for a 16", 66 links for an 18" and 70 links for a 20". If you are using bars designed for a different saw, that could alter the link counts.

It’s always best to shop around, but I’ve bought chain from here before loggerchain.com They carry everything Oregon and they are closer to me. I may just start buying rolls ( got my first one from the Chainsawlady) so I can make loops as I need them.

If you use enough chain, it's definitely worthwhile to buy rolls! A 100' roll of 3/8" full chisel lasts me 2-3 years between my use and selling a few chains on customer saws.

Do you use a spinner to make the loops? Yes. You need a breaker and a spinner to make loops from a roll of chain. At least with a roll, you are not committed to any length till you need it.

Do you use a spinner to make the loops? Leon's remark brought back a memory from my years. We used to hire high school boys to help us in the winter time. This one was very good breaking chain. He could cut a 100' into loops when he arrived after school. That was mostly after the XL series came out. We had a deal, if they bought two at one time they would get the second one cheaper. Most of the customers found out that was a good idea as they could go to the woods with two sharp chains. Just a memory. chainsawlady

Great memory there Joyce and still a good idea! I've got backup chains for all my firewood saws in the job box...it's paid off time and time again.
