have a xl 12 that im working on for a customer the type that takes the 58780 carb spacer i changed fuel line filter put a new walbro sdc carb on it changed the fuel line grommets and she still is not starting and running smooth she still throws out gas and it gets into the chamber where the carb sits in this is my first xl 12 i ever worked on too cause here locally homelites are hard to find in the local area
what else can it be ?

Calvin, check those reed valves! One thing my XL 113 was doing after it went to pot was spitting a lot of gas back out the carb. I'm guessing because of the missing piece of reed, the crankcase pressure took the easy route, right back out through the carb.

would this cause the saw to conk out and hard to get its prime up to stay running also ?

Yes, the reed is what allows the saw to a. create pressure in the crankcase on the downstroke to force fuel/air into the cylinder and b. to subsequently create a suction on the upstroke to draw fuel/air into the crank. esentially the reed is a one way valve.

Calvin, check the points if it has them. Had an Echo 302 do this and it was points that were way out, damn near made me crazy, but I laughed when I fixored it ......

found the problem i hope the reed valve was stuck half way open without the saw running at all
