Yes, your saw is a VI type saw, so is 360. The XL123 you just bought is not.

The other saws VI was added after the fact. (because they were made in both VI and non VI). XL123 and the XL76 are basically the same saw. XL76 only sold in Canada. It was also still being made long after they quit making the XL123.

I am curious how you know how many saws were built in a year, at least up to the time your own saws were built?

I was wondering about that as well, my understanding of the serial number concerning the number of units made is a little different than this

Silly me, I didn't look at the serial numbers till now, of course now I know where the quoted production numbers came from. I was always under the impression that the only thing we could count on was the T meant Terry.

The VIs and Floating Power antivibes were around before the pro series (350/360, 450, 550, 650, 750). They all were a cludgey add-ons though where the pro series were designed in the first place as a whole saw with anti-vibe as part of the design, not tacked on after.

I think the VI-123 was the cleanest of all the "add-on" vibration isolation systems. It still looked a bit funny, but at least it looked somewhat intentional. The XL-400FP and the XL Mini Automatic FP just look straight up strange and I've never even seen an XL-923FP.

I agree Leon. All the FPs look somehow, well, just not right. I Do like the 944 and 955 VIs though... something about them looks neat to me, even though they are alot bulkier than the normal XL 7/8/900s.

The FP's were the first stab, the VI's got a lot better and by the time the 350 & 650 were produced, Homelite had made a vibration isolated saw that worked and looked good.

Built last January? Could it be T 81720534? June 21, 1978? It really looks like a B, but it must be an 8, that goes along with the right time period, sure looks like a B though, even used the old magnifying glass.

For the year I have only seen “A” and “B” on Terry built saws, never on a USA saw.

I never considered a B for 1980, nice.
