I have this saw but I can't figure out the model. The identification tag is missing. I feel this saw may have odd parts. Someone painted that saw with a brush, it looks awful. It will be stripped and looked after.
Here are 5 pictures of that thing.
Thank you for your help.

I have never noticed a spark plug cover or muffler like that those. Looks to be in pretty good shape except for the handle bar and the paint.

May be a 700D. Top cover is for sure IMO.

Here some more pictures.
The muffler cover just hang in there with a wire. It's not original.
The cylinder cover and cap may not go with the saw. We see the parts number on them 56967 et 56968

It looks like a Fairbanks-Morse starter, which is not what Acres lists for a 700D. Acres shows 707's with that top cover too. I suppose that there could be many parts swapped from other saws in the series. You might measure the bore, that could narrow it down a little. I am no expert here, just guessing, Greg is better at this than me, Leon too.
Maybe you know the bore can be measured through the exhaust port. In case you don't, just pick a spot on the outside next to the port, measure from there to the piston, then to the other side of the bore with the piston down. The difference is the bore size minus the piston clearance, only a few thousandths of an inch.

The fuel tank does not havé the propre shaping to be a 707. The more I look at it the more it looks like a 700 with the wrong starter assembly.

Here are a few differences I see in this saw. The starter is a Fairbanks Morse which was on the 600 & Zip. There were no brackets on the 600 starter. It is too large, probably from a gear saw. Cylinder cover on 600 was round and not the two piece style on 700 and later, which had the 3 ball starter. The muffler looks like an XL-12 muffler. Can't see a switch in the starter shield. It certainly is a Frankenstein saw!!! chainsawlady
