I bought this chainsaw from a guy in Indiana who claimed his dad bought the saw new and he had just got it out of the repair shop where it was full serviced and ready to cut. In the ad he claimed he had ran the saw and it ran strong. All this was a big fat lie, The rubber line to the carb was deteriorated to the texture of over cooked linguine. The hose to the tank was in the bottom of the tank in a puddle and the grommet to the tank was gooey. A good amount of the gooey fuel line was also in the carb. The muffler was so loose very little exhaust was exiting the muffler. Whats more is the guy still has the ad up on Facebook marketplace and when I politely messaged him saying this was not the saw I bought he stated, "buyer beware". I paid 245.00 for the saw and shipping. I believed that to be a good price had the saw been what he said, it was not. Have the ethics and morals of the people of middle America and of middle age deteriorated like the fuel line on my saw? Out of six saws purchased online as working saws only three actually ran. My make offer price is now 10.00 tops on any saw. Pathetic that some one would do this for 100-200 dollars, I guess that is how much it takes to buy their morals and character. Sorry about the rant, What are my chances of cleaning the carb, or should I look for a new one? Thanks, Alain

Sorry to hear that you got "taken". Did he provide good quality photos to look at?

I'm sorry to hear about this! The carb will be fine...get a good carburetor kit with a new inlet needle. Clean the carburetor out thoroughly with carburetor or brake cleaner and assemble with the new kit. Usually the extent of entry to the carburetor is just in the fuel barb & fairly easy to clean out.
In terms of buying saws, morals, etc... My philosophy on buying a used saw is to assume that it will not run. I base the price I'm willing to pay on the overall condition of the saw visually, the completeness of the saw, the value of new parts (if available at all) and my personal estimate of how much time & money I'll spend to get it running. I just bought a Super 1050 from Ebay that is supposed to be a good runner. As long as the piston isn't scored, I'm comfortable that I can make the saw a good part of my collection within my "mental budget".
Again I'm sorry that this seller misrepresented the saw, as no one should have to deal with dishonesty. It is more prevalent than any of us would care for, so it's best to build the assumption of some dishonesty into the price you are willing to offer.
If the saw is otherwise as described, fixing it should not be a problem...the hose kit will take care of much of the problem and if you need help locating a carb kit, just shot me an email.
Happy Friday!

All in all I probably would have bought the saw even knowing it need fuel line, the lying part is what disappoints me. If he would have said "as is" or he didn't know that would be different. Its not just this instance or a couple of others from eBay, the people we expect to provide justice to victims have been far worse than my bad chainsaw buys.

Happy Friday! I've order the hose kit from you, glad to see the new Tygon hose. I buy saws the same way I buy tractors, if they are in clean original shape with much of the original paint I can fix the rest and would want the saw f it was a god collector, the guys didn't have to lie and shouldn't lie. As I explained to Supercharged, so much of my frustration has to do with fighting a legal system that is supposed to protect the citizens. In our state it is illegal for any government agency to give out name, address, etc on people accused and charged with a crime. Without that information it is difficult to bring them to justice in civil court. Also my insurance premiums skyrocketed because I cant show a source of income, that's because I work at home on the farm and barely get by, maybe I should start robbing banks, they have a 1099 for that.

If you got the one I'm thinking of, it looked in real good shape. If I didn't already have several, I would have bought it.

There are always several bad apples in a bunch. It's those type of sellers that spoils it for everyone. I've been lucky so far and only got burned on two saws. One was a 550 with supposedly strong compression but only had 60psi. The other was a Super EZ that I was buying for a present. It was supposed to run but didn't. I could have dealt with that, but went to put oil in and it was coming out faster than I could pour it. I just got pissed and bought another one from Supercharged86 which I knew would be good.

I was just looking at at a 1050 and had it on the brain

I'm turning my rant and perceived bad fortune into a positive with the XL-901. I have the carb off and will go through this saw and learn much more than if it was a saw that ran. That knowledge will help me immensely in my other saws. I'm real excited about getting my new fuel lines and carb kit.

Hope I'm not being a pest, but I just wanted to clarify some carb settings. I screwed in both Hi and Lo carb settings in and backed them out between 1-1/2 and 1-/14 turn, the idle screw I turned in until the screw had moved the lever about 1/6". It still wants to die after a few seconds idling, but seem to run good and full and low throttle. Should I let out the Lo speed screw a tad or screw in the idle screw in more? Thanks

On the video it sounds like it has a slight hesitation when pulling the trigger...if that's the case, I'd open up the low side another 1/4 turn or so. Then turn the idle speed screw in till it will run on it's own without the chain moving.

Once I get it straightened I'll check the low idle setting. Thanks

Those throttle rods can be a pain the butt. The saw sounds great, it doesn't look like it has too many hours on it all.
