Just got home from picking up my newest, a Zip B. Won it on EBay Thursday night, got lucky in the last two seconds. Seller lives close by and works even closer, met at his work location this morning. Saw is in really nice shape, very little use. I am going to look for a longer bar, it came with a 16 inch. I would appreciate hearing from those that have ran one of these with a 20 or 21 inch bar and a .404 chain. Not getting fuel to the carb, a rebuild is in order, no biggie. This is my first old saw, extremely happy with it. Would like to hear from those that have experience with a Zip and if any of you have a new bar. If I figure out how to post pictures, I will do. Old and computer illiterate.

Yes, very clean, changed gasoline, chain oil, turned the chain around, checked to see that the new chain matched the clutch, fired on the second pull.

Wow, that's in great shape, way to go! I know that is not your picture cuz you would not put the chain on backwards would you?

Not in the last 46 years of using a saw, but there is still time for a first. When I met the seller, he pulled it over a half dozen times with no results. That's when he mentioned that it did fire with fuel shot into the sparkplug hole. At home, I removed the drive cover, bar, and corrected the chain and then noticed the chain was new with no wear. Oregon 50, .404/.050. Cleaned what parts I had off, made sure the pad and guide plates were good to go, and reassembled it. My next thought was, what the hell, try to start it one more time. Fired on the second pull. Will check the carb settings tomorrow, seems rich at high speed. What a great exhaust sound!! Happy as a pig in ----.

I've serviced several of the old vertical cylinder Homelites over the past several years. I typically replace fuel lines, filter, and rebuild the carb, most of which are Tillotson. They have all performed well for me. The plastic fuel inlets usually leak a little when the saw is on the shelf. BTW, I also wash the air filters in soap and water with a toothbrush.
Also, you can put an Oregon rim sprocket drum on most of the direct drive models to allow you to rUn different pitch chains.

I was going to bid on that as it looked so clean, but I already have a zip, and something else came along that I didn't have. Glad it went to someone that cares, won't find many in that condition.

Did have a chance to run the saw through a piece of dried white pine today. Just the weight of the saw is enough to feed the bar down through, any more than that would lug the revs too much. Neighbors have already said its very loud. It's music to me. I don't recall which of the members possesses chainsawladys sales records, I would like to sort of pin down the year of manufacture. The seller mentioned that he would keep his eyes open for old saws and keep me informed, he visits a lot of estate sales. Dreaming of a XL-15.
