I agree Doug that $25 and then shipping on top of that is on the high side for a sprocket, but at least it is an option that's out there. Maybe you'll find luck with Oregon. You'd just think there'd be more sources for these things.... probably are just all the fun is in finding them. Dan The way I see it is you take the wife out to dinner it will cost you more than $25 and the benefit will last only a short time. If you spend $25 on a part that will allow you to run your saw for many years will pay for itself 10 fold. Honestly yes $25 is a bit high but does it really matter long term? Bill

Hey guys, I checked out one of my C5's and that is the correct Oregon hub #10616. That is what is on one of my C5's. The other one has a Homelite hub on it. I agree that the rim sprocket is the way to go.

Here's an update on my C5 project. Sorry I've been absent. Many thanks to all for the help and advice. A7ecorsair gave me the rim clue, which I then took to the Oregon folks (across the freeway from my house) and in a very old dusty manual in the back Alison in tech support found a hand-written note beside that "obsolete" part number and it fits the C series (well - most of them). So the one I referred to on the big auction site is actually a quantity of four of them (Oregon 10616). Great seeing aviatur's confirmation of the decision to buy. Thanks you guys! I don't have them yet, as the are coming to Oregon from Labrador, CA. While waiting, I am still looking for an Oregon .375/.050 bar that I can fit. I understand all of the concerns about modding an XL bar, so I will need to think about this. You can get Homelite and Carlton bars out there to fit the saw, but they are not cheap and generally they are .063/.404 (unless they are the XL bar). Occasionally, you'll see a bar picture with what appears to be the proper oil hole but I think it's a stock photo and not necessarily what I would get. So I go back and forth on that, and generally I'm inclined to get the common bar (such as the 270GNDD196) and drill a small oil hole right where it belongs. It's a simple mod. I am hoping to be all done for $125-$150 and have a 77cc saw with a longer bar/chain. It's clear that the oil hole is why there's no listed fit-up in the Oregon selector because when you go into other brands, you quickly see what I figured out: the mount is the same across a broad spectrum of Homies.
I will also have some rims I can't use for the C-fever guys on the board (should they need one).
Meanwhile: I am watching craigslist here in town for another C5 chainsaw for parts. Lots and LOTS of older Homelite saws, but no C5s. I did see a non-running C9 a couple of weeks ago, with a 32" bar. $35. It was gone in seconds.

Then there was the Mark five pump............ mark five pump whats that randy ? never heard of it A Mark 5 is a portable water pump made by Homelite for forest fire use, some of them were amphibious They had the same starter as the C types in the use given in fire conditions, failure and repair were frequent. Sometimes we had several running a once, pumping water uphill into portable tanks, kind of a Pony Express thing. Never give out that you can fix stuff, you will not have time to do anything else.

Long overdue pictures of the C5. I have removed the bar that it came with. I think that I have the proper drum, and I am searching for a long bar. The other saw is my spare XL12

Your C5 looks like it could eat the XL12 for breakfast ;D. I've almost finished my C-91 projects. Last job was fixing the starter pulley on the "work" saw. The pulley should have a hump that slides into a spring lock. Well, the hump had worn away, so I got a small chunk of magnesium from a junk saw and cut it out using a Dremel to replace the hump. A little JB weld and I think its good to go. Man that magnesium is some soft stuff! Cuts like butter using a small saw or a Dremel.

Thanks for that OldZip, I appreciate it. I'll put it to use for a bit and see how it holds up. If the JB gives way, I'll shoot ya a PM.

This thread started off real nice taking about C-91's so before it get too far off track, or goes in the ditch can we, OldZip and myself, get an answer about C-91 compression from some other forum members Can someone stick a compression gauge into a C-91 and give us a reading, kind of like a second opinion from a doctor

I finally got the 'ole compression gauge working again. It had a leaky schrader valve, and luckily it was the one next to the gauge and not the one in the tip. Don't wanna try finding one of those weak-springed jobs.
So, I checked the compression on the 2 freshly rebuilt C-91s. Neither one has been ran yet, so I'd assume the numbers will go up a bit after they seat. Both had decent looking cylinders, but not new by any means. In any case, I got a hair over 145 on the ugly one and a hair under 145 on the pretty one. I'd guess that once seated they should be over 150. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info and that seems to be inline with what the Homelite manuals say. Now it's back to OldZip to decide if he what's to figure out why his is only 100.
