I'm in the middle of rebuilding my Zips Tillotson carb, I believe I found the problem which is that the needle does not move freely in the seat. New or old needle. Here is my dilemma. Out of the 12 sockets 5/16 I tried I couldn't find a single one with a thin enough wall to get down and onto the seat. Short of grinding one down has anyone out there ever gotten to one with a socket if so what brand and pn was it? Thanks I even tried some of my hobby grade rc tools and still nothing.

Sockets that thin are hard to find. I use a 5/16 nut driver that I turned down. I made the mistake of using turned down 5/16 sockets on regular nuts and found that they split pretty easy so if you make one, save it for needle seat removal only.

With the socket mounted in a drill press or similar, a steady hand with a high speed grinder will take a socket down pretty fast. If you are careful and steady, it will be round too. You can pull the blade out of a nut driver handle so it can be turned down in a similar fashion, then reinstalled in the handle. Sounds like you have plenty of sockets to experiment with. :{)

A 1/4 drive 6 point deep well Snap on is the thinnest I've found. Might give one a try.

Thanks guys at this point I've tried all mine and I've got a quite a few different brands. Going to have to play with grinding one down I've got plenty to spare and having a specific tool for the job doesn't hurt. Ill keep you posted. Thanks again.
