I finally got the time to put new fuel lines in and the saw will run with a direct prime through the carb. but it will not draw fuel. I didn't realize the saw had reeds until I looked through the parts list. What purpose do the serve never ran into a saw with reeds? Do the open and close to create a vacuum from the crank case to draw the fuel up? Everything is in order carb. is clean but it won't draw the fuel up from the tank. Thanks in advance for any answers! Ted

If you have access to a vacuum pump like a Mityvac you could disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor and pull a vacuum on the fuel line to see if it is okay. If it is your carburetor could have a problem or the vacuum ports to the carburetor might be plugged or the gaskets or intake block is bad.

The reeds are the intake valves of the engine. Piston ported engines use the piston for valving, 4 strokes have cam operated valves. The carb can be clean but if the fuel pump diaphragm inside the carb is stiff it might not pump. It also forms the fuel valves for the pump and if they are hard or distorted with age, again the fuel pump will not work. I would be looking to install a carb kit, they are not expensive. There should be a name and some numbers on the carb, those will get you a kit from onlyhomelites or chainsawlady or lawnmowertech37 or sugarcreeksupply or ebay or ? Good luck!

One small tear in a new fuel line and it will suck air instead of fuel. BTDT.
