I recently took apart my Homelite XL to clean out all the grease and dirt and replace all the Oil and fuel lines. I noticed the fuel tank has a vent hole at the top but nothing was connected to it. What goes in that hole. I heard a duckbill valve goes in there. Is there supposed to be a little brass tube in there like the oil tank has? If so where can I get one?

Yes, just a duckbill goes in the hole. ( see pics) Also there is a filter that goes over the duckbill. Originally it was a piece of foam the was glued to the recoil housing. Homelite part# 69443. It was there to keep sawdust out of the duckbill. When the original is missing, you can use a piece of a air filter in its place. I just lay it over the duckbill and install recoil housing.

To answer your questions that you posted on the "other site" , your saw that you posted pics of has the pressure feed only oiling system. Inside the oil tank has the duckbill valve and brass filter. (See pic) Any good small engine shop will have the lines you need. 2 screw carbs are idle speed and idle mixture only, main mixture is fixed, non adjustable.

I'm a little late, as usual, but this information is exactly what I have been searching... The little chainsaw that I have has never been serviced, well that I am aware. Its been leaking gas and I see the discussion thread showing an exact picture of what mine looks like with the exception of the "duckbill valve".
Interesting and new to me. I have no idea if you can still acquire such a thing? Also, is there a specific parts manual available? I seem to think the one I have was bought in 1979. Help please as I really don't want to scrap... Thanks much.

old rabbitt My inventory says I have a 69451 valve for your XL Homelite gas tank. I will check if interested. Also Leon Crouch the owner of House of Homelite probably has them. You can contact him on House of Homelite. under messages. Telephone - 541-261-8115.Do you want an IPL? I do have them also and they are also published on House of Homelite. joycewilson26@gmail.com

Thanks much, yes I am interested. Also, I did notice the valve in the oil tank (pic above) was gone as well. Not sure much about the saw due to both of our ages but it seems both the oil lines and gas lines are original. Poor thing has lots of history in my family... I will send you an email as soon as I get done cutting up all the darn ash trees that have fallen in the last week.

This is an old thread but great picture! I did not realize that there was supposed to be a filter over the duckbill but it makes a lot of sense! These saws get really grimey and greasy and I can see how the valve could get plugged up over time.
