Yes, those are some mean looking spikes. I've thought about trying to cut out some. I have a pic where some sold on ebay awhile back. Resize and print 'em for a template. Just never get around to it. If you're interested in trying it, let me know and I'll post the pic I have. As for the saw, I actually thought it was going to end higher. Alot of people would like that one for a Christmas present!

I've made my own spikes a few times - Nothing that badass looking, but they work fine. I start with a piece of paper or posterstock, kind of rough draw what you want, hold it up on the saw for screw holes. I trace it out on stainless then & cut on the bandsaw. Using the template/paper works great, easier than cutting out a bunch that you don't like -

Dan, A dimensioned sketch or printable photo would be great.
Mike,What material did you make them out of?
What did a new 750 sell for in 86'?

OK Dokee... see the Bars, Chains, clutches thread. I posted 'em there. I don't have a '86 price list, but I do for '85. With a 24" sprocket tip bar, list was $738.95, dealer cost for a single unit $554.21. With a 43" sprocket tip, list was $778.95 and dealer cost for one was $584.21.

Oh yea, almost forgot... here's a place that sells metal online at a fairly decent price. www.onlinemetals.com/. I've ordered stuff from them before and they provide good service. Curious to see what alloy Mike has used. I'm not much of a metallurgist, but I've tried a few odds and ends. Dan

Guys, I can't tell you what grade stainless I used, I'm not sure - It came from an old switchgear cover. I think it's a little under 1/8" thick. My caliper's up in the shop, raining too hard to hike up there. The picture is the one I made for my XL 400.

I just measured the spike that I scanned and its a hair over 1/8"... 0.1275 on the micrometer. May be a small plating over it, but in any case I'd think 1/8" would be perfect.
Merry Christmas, Dan

A 23 year old saw held its value. I think the value is even better than a harley davidson motorcycle. Mike

I did briefly discuss with my Bro about making copies of those mean spikes. I have them on my 750. He can do it on a CNC plasma cutter but I'm sure he would want to make a quantity to make it worth his programming time and materials.
Who wants some?

As I posted in the other thread I have a decent amount of spikes around here that I could loan out.
