I believe 9 digit Canadian serial numbers read the same as USA ones. Built date would be 143 day of 1983, and the 379 saw built that day. Last year builds for that UT number was 1986.

Thanks for the additional information. I've also noticed that these saws have a different muffler design. Instead of the downdraft design on most 925's. Any ideas why?

I'm not exactly sure. Wrap handle saws are for mostly felling work. Maybe it was to keep the exhaust from blowing on the operator. Someone else may have a better answer.
