Some one just brought me a red super Xl to fix, however the piston is scored. Any one have a good short block to sell cheap. I found one on e bay for 55.00 not sure that my customer will want to spend that much. The saw looks like a new saw, so it's worth repairing in my opinion.

SXL or SXP ? $55 does seem steep for the whole short block, you never know what shape the stuff is in. Is the customers cylinder ok? Check with LMT37, I think he has Nos p/c's. Edge and engine may have them as well. Can you just clean up the p/c and put a new set of rings in it? SXL's will run with pistons that look like they went through re-entry. I reserected a sxl for my f-i-l that was lean seized, cleaned everything up, same rings, she runs great, 138psi compression. you never know. CSW

be careful who you buy stuff from ebay most the time it is used when they say new make sure of the seller before bidding i dont use ebay that much to sell items i use my store to do that its possible to just hone the cylinder if needed if it has no scarring or anything it may be re usable just probily need rings i do have a piston but it is saved for someone else now i may have the rings CSW i sold both cylinders about 7 months ago yes its 7 :30 am been up since 5 this morning only had 5 hrs of sleep its possible to grab a good used parts saw that may have good compression and all but poor ignition system then you know you have the cylinder cause if the parts saw is not got fire and no carb but the piston and cylinder are intact in excellent condition that saw is a goldmine to a sxlao owner they are out there just got to find them i wish someone made these pistons and cylinders then it can be bought all the time here is the ring if the piston can be salvageable www.cmsmallengines.net/homelite-ring-part-594361a-59436-1a-594361-a.html

I ran into Sam Hawkins last fall at a sale. We talked for quite a while waiting on the parts to sell. I think he said he had some for the SXL.

Hey good deal. had a fellow contact me the other day about possibly having a cylinder. So I'm hoping.....maybe....if nothing else i'll just buy the piston from you and sit on it and if nothing turns up on a cyl I'll resell it. Sorry to keep u waiting on it so long.
Hey junkyard u have a link to that cyl on ebay?...i might be interested.

Hi guys thanks for all the info. I hate working on stuff like this, it's always a pain in the ass. I can't seem to get it tuned right, I've run in to this before on saws with scored pistons. No mater what I do you can't cant the saws to run right. My customer doesn't want to spend any money on it, but want it's running perfect. >:(I found some other problems as well, so it's really not worth fixing. If it were my own saw I would tear it all down and rebuilt it with out a second thought. I would replace what needs replacing not just put a band aid on it. Thanks again.
