Thanks for posting over here. I googled for help and this popped up. Figured I should register. I was finally able to get it off, now I'm trying to find out how to tell if the pump is bad. The manual oiler works but the auto doesnt. Lines are good and not plugged. Some oil drained out of the pump but one side of the pump was dry, the side opposite from the worm drive.

Well, I couldn't help so I thought maybe someone else here could, I know nothing about that saw. I am certain that someone who does will swing by.
Good luck.

Check the plunger and gear on the pump. The worm turns the gear making the plunger move. Check teeth on both.

Not sure where to find the plunger, but I spun the gear on the pump either direction and it pushed oil out of either hole. Maybe the part that rides on the shaft wasnt contacting the gear?

The plunger is the piece that you spun with your finger. The locating screw on the top of the pump rides against a waved ridge on the plunger shaft that gives it a pump action. I'm assuming you've already looked for stripped teeth on the pump or worm gear as undee70ss suggested? Since you've already determined that it pumps oil, I have to wonder whether the correct thrust washer was installed to drive the worm gear. I don't know what year your saw is, but this IPL should help you verify that your setup is correct: www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/uploads/3/9/7/9/39792537/homelite_410_chainsaw_ipl_17598__revision_1___2_.pdfIf the thrust washer is extremely worn, it may need replaced, but that is very unusual.

I will grab some photos when I get back from work, but the washer looked okay. Maybe the worm gear isnt sitting in far enough? How far in does it need to be? It doesnt sit flush with the pump when installed.

If your 410 isn't pumping oil correctly, try this- I recently found out that a new HAND plunger assy. solved the problem. The auto oiler somehow works work through the hand oil plunger. If that is bad it won't pump oil properly.
