"... the sad reality hit that this spam post has had about as much traffic as any legit post on this forum as of late. I'm certainly guilty of not contributing much lately. Dang, just wish we could get a spark and get things moving around here again." Dan (lesorubcheek) Dan posted this as a reaction to the spammer on another thread. I copied it not to harass Dan but only to illustrate what I think many of us feel about HOH. This is a great forum with a lot of great information and not a lot of crap. (Well, if we had a moderator there would be less crap.) Anyway, my point: We can make it great again (not a political statement, just the way I feel) if we keep at it, respond willingly to posts with all the best information and intents, and feel genuinely that it IS Great. (Too optimistic? NO I DON'T THINK SO.) Personally, I feel great about this forum. With the participation of a few folks we now have access to a huge pile of original Homelite newsletters and service memos on Leon's site (thanks Greg, Joyce, and Leon). Sure the traffic is down, so what? We have good threads without a bunch of political stuff or arguments about whose truck or even chainsaw is best. I love it here even though I frequent a couple other forums on saws, this one is the one I like best. I have decided for me that I will contribute everything I can when I can and keep up my end. I don't have a lot of saws but I have learned so much over the last few years here and I am truly grateful for all the help. Thanks to Dan and all the others who have helped, I hope I can return the favor. Happy New Year! Dan P.S. I forgot to include an easy way to block spammers from your notice, and prevent them from contacting you: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/5230/blocking-spammersReacting to them just may get some robot owner money from the advertiser as it may count as a hit. That means the less interaction we give their threads, the less the robot owner gets from a dumb advertiser. Block them all, that's what I do. :{)

Dan & Dan you are correct on all accounts. I received an email yesterday from owner of the forum (Eric) and we are in productive talks about buying the forum. Should this actually happen, there will be a number of new moderators on here with the ability to remove the garbage posts. I'll keep everyone posted on progress, but I'm optimistic that we will make the forum great again and like Dan, I am NOT making any political statement!

I hope he does not expect a lot of money, he has not done anything lately and there is not much traffic here as a result. Got my fingers crossed.

Dan, thanks for running with this! Trust me, no feeling of harassment taken. It'd be great to see a dozen or so members jump in and agree that the place needs a proper resurrection. There's been so much bad blood, it would be very refreshing to see things get cleaned up and start fresh once again. Certainly hope Eric is willing to negotiate a nice arrangement.
Dan
PS I'm by no means politically correct, but won't make a political(ish) statement in case someone else may be more PC than me!

This is good news. I would contribute as much as possible but I have a meager Homelite collection of saws and knowledge that you gentlemen have. It is nice to come to a brand specific site. Hopefully I will graduate from Dumpster Diver.

This is good news. I would contribute as much as possible but I have a meager Homelite collection of saws and knowledge that you gentlemen have. My feeling is it does not matter the size of your collection or the total amount of knowledge but rather a person be willing to share the best they have and do it in a non-combative way. My collection is small, it is pretty well listed in my signature. I have focused on XL-12 type engined equipment mainly because I started with and XL-500 and it needed (needs) some work and parts. I found this site and was well received so I stayed. Its my favorite even after the decline in participation. No talk of trucks, spouses, home repairs (well only a little from spammers), or politics, its all Homelite and any Homelite. Bring what you have and have fun.

No talk of trucks, spouses, home repairs (well only a little from spammers), or politics, its all Homelite and any Homelite. Bring what you have and have fun. Very nice words. Honestly, I had as much or more enthusiasm for saws when I first started fixing up my father's 350 before I bought the first one for myself. Still remember the thrill of finding AS and that other people actually loved working with old chainsaws too. Then when RBW (Eric) decided to kick of HoH, well, having a site dedicated to Homelites just couldn't get any better. There's always been ups and downs, but the atmosphere here is so much more pleasant than AS. Personally, I think the best threads always start with someone wanting to fix a problem with their saw. When everyone jumps in to help someone, well that's what its all about. That's how everyone can learn something new. I remember a few years back someone (I think on AS) was describing a problem with some older saw not running properly. A recommendation was made to change the condenser, which fixed their problem. The way the problem was described made me think about one of the David Bradleys I was having problems with. Sure enough, put a new condenser on and bingo, she opened up and roared like a tree cuttin' cruise missile instead of sputtering and coughing when given a little throttle. Before, I was sure the problem must be with the carb, but I was very very wrong. So, the person that made the recommendation to change the condenser helped at least 2 people, maybe dozens, who knows. But none of that would happen without the original question being posted! So, really the best contributors aren't the ones with a pile of saws. Everyone contributes, especially those just getting started out because otherwise the questions wouldn't be asked in the first place! The key is an environment that everyone feels confident to ask any question without fearing ridicule. Dan

Here I have found when I ask for help it is answered from knowledge. I dont typically chime in unless I have actual experience with the situation or am 100% the info I am passing along is correct. Im not an Arborist, I collect, build and am a weekend warrior at best but the love of the saw is there.

I too have enjoyed this site/forum. I do drop in every now and then. It does however need a lot of clean-up. I'm owner of a few URL's, my own web site and moderate and operate a few motorcycle club forums. This proboards is advertised as free hosting, but I am sure there is more to it than meets the eye. Is it a revenue stream generator that the new owner would be "buying"? If not...why would Eric not give it away free to the first potentially competent new owner ASAP? Not really looking for an explanation....just thinking out loud. I do cut some fire wood but that is not why I have over 30 saws + weedwackers + blowers

I don't drop in as often as I should, but still LOVE this place. I may not have a large collection of Homelite items, but The d have a pair of fresh XL-12's and an old HL weed eater. I am a decent 2t mechanic, and will do m best to help anyone in anyw ay I can.
