This saw belongs to a good friend of mine...it runs great and now it has the looks to match! The entire saw was disassembled, media blasted, cleaned, primed, painted with 2 coats of color and 2 coats of clear. Nothing of mine turns out perfect (there's a few defects that the photos don't show), but all in all I am very happy with the way it turned out. So is my friend Jim! Beautiful indeed! You are a master, no doubt.
There appear to be two small factory holes in the face of the rewind housing, are those for a plate?
I had to scroll up to recheck those holes as I was typing the above question and I was amazed again, very nice.

Thanks guys! The two holes on the starter cover are for the missing ID tag...if anyone has a tag for a 2000 laying around I'll buy it! The bar is waiting on me to order a set of stencils and enough parts to paint to justify mixing a can of the two-part clear coat. I'm gonna use the Homelite "stars" stencil on a 36" Windsor tipped bar.

Well, your pretty close to perfect, a lot closer than I ever could, looks a whole bunch better than mine. Have any before pics?

I should have some pics somewhere, but this video should give you an idea of the condition when I started: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJccPTIrGr4After making the video, I discovered some of my early info on paint colors was wrong...things like the handle bar. We also couldn't find replacements for some of the broken parts (like the clutch cover), but a friend of mine was able to weld the cylinder cover up nicely.
