My sister and BIL came to visit and dropped off the XL2 Automatic my BIL found at the town scrap pile. This one is definitely newer than my first one. My first one is around a 73 and this one with missing serial# is with a Charlotte NC tag. When did they move to N.C.? I find some, but very few differences besides the shade of red color.

Not many changes over the years. Does it have points electronic ignition? Clutch held on by a steel ring, snap ring or a nut? Get the date off the carburetor, this will give you approximately the year built.

As I examined this saw I am noticing many more changes than I first detected. There are quite a few. I'll make a list and photos to show eventually. I think this one may be 1987 from the date on the bar. I will see if it runs before I tear it apart and look at the carb. Any one know when Homelite moved to N.C.?

XL2 was last made in 1982 or 1983, so it can't be a 1987. The bar must have been changed sometime in its life.

Homelite-Textron moved it's headquarters from Port Chester, NY, to Charlotte, NC in 1975. But articles are vague as to whether or not this included the manufacturing facilities as well (or when?).

Long time coming but I finally pulled my 2nd XL2 apart. (73 saw was HDC 15) This HDC 42 carb is dated 6/77. Oiler duck bill was goo. Found the bronze coupler/filter in bottom of oil tank. Also got my early saw running again with a carb kit. Years ago, when I ran E-10 mix it started the death of the then new feed diaphragm.
