It only took about a year & a half for me to get off my butt and do it, but I've finally finished the restoration of my 900D. It's far & away the best trade I ever made (got a 360 running good in exchange!) I soda blasted most of the parts in prep for paint, which took off the old paint but no metal. The finish is 2 coats of self-etching primer, 3 coats of color and two coats of 2-part clear coat. All paint was from a rattle-can, but I'm very happy with how it flowed. My only real regret is that I forgot about the angle that the saw sits with the custom spike when I set the decal on the bar cover, so it's not quite at the right angle. All in all though, I'm very happy and I can't wait to find another saw from this era to restore! Wow! Beautiful restoration job Leon! And what a bucking spike! I've just started the resto process on my 990D by having a can of red color-matched and mixed. Those two-stage spray cans are quite an apparatus.

Very nice restoration. Do those 900 series have the air vane governor like the early 700 707 770 etc... Acres site says 6000rpm

They are supposed to...mine had it removed before I got the saw. The governor assembly is extremely hard to find; I haven't yet!

I had to hunt for my governer assemblies for my 7-19C and 707D. Now they both have them but I want to insure they are running fast enough (6K or a bit more) then tune the H for good pulling power. I watched some Utube videos and the 700's and 900's dont seem to have a lot of grunt for 95cc or 112cc. If the H is tuned off load it seems it may not run that strong. I also removed the big chains(7/16) and put later rim clutches with 404 chain. To insure I get enough revs I will be buying a non contact electronic tach and then tweek the governer spring attachments( which were all bent up out of shape along with the springs... While my homelites are not my first line cutting saws, I like them and appreciate their quality designs and build. My 707D has 165 psi and I'm expecting it to perform better..eventually once I finish my saw education....

Mine had the remnants...someone had cut the rod air vane off and left part of the assembly bolted on. I'm so happy the someone thought that was a good idea!
