I need a small saw for limbing, heavy brush, small trees. I don't won't to get the Homelite 360 out for that. I'm looking at small Echo, Sthil, Husky, but I'm wondering how long they'll last. Is the Homelite XL Auto (2nd gen.) any good, big enough? Any other suggestions.

The XL's make a fine limbing saw imo...but if you feel the need for something a little larger you may want to look at something along the lines of a homelite super ez, these are some pretty decent saws and there are usually plenty of them avaliable.

My Stihl 028 w/ 16" bar used to be my limb saw, 'till it developed a fatal crack in the housing. My XL 101 has taken it's place. Nice light saw.

for light work I love my Echo cs3000 top handle with a 12 inch bar I bought it new many years ago to replace a pair of small top handle tempermental macks I owned.
the small homelight XL is another good candidate my best friend had one & an old poulan & they performed very good.
my light duty saw is a poulan wild thing for when I need something light with more leverage than the Echo top handle or a longer bar for brush the wild thing has an 18 inch bar but I dont want to get the Stihl 026 or one of my Homelite Super Xls. & for felling I use either my stihl or one of my homelites super XLs or an old husky that was free

Thanks for the input. The other factor is I need a small saw now. I have the Homelite 360 apart to do the boot (another post). I want to take pictures of each step. Then there isn't many old, like new, saws around other then my Super XL (my Dad bought in his 70's, showroom condition) and 360 Auto, almost showroom condition
(I would recommend one with the double triggers. Very handy!) I never seen that???

I use old 150 auto's w/14" bars and 72LG chain for limbing, brush clearing, etc.

Yessir WB44, gotta love 150s. All of ours have 16" bars with regular 3/8" on 'em. I usually grab a little XL or Super 2 for limbing, but if there's a small tree (12" or so or smaller) its almost always a 150 that gets used. Super EZs are nice, but just have a thing for those 150s.

Both the 150 and the SEZ are good saws but the SEZ gets the edge in my book. The Super2 is a good saw if it used for it;s intended purpose and not above it.
