In my meager collection I've noticed a couple different types of fuel caps that are interchangeable. The one (see photo of black cap) has a hollow tube in which a duckbill type valve seats in the bottom to prevent fuel from exiting through the top of the cap via the brass type filter. The other type (see photo of red cap) is different and doesn't seem to have a location for a valve. I find that this cap leaks fuel via the brass type filter when the saw is tilted. Is there something missing? thanks

The duckbill is behind the brass fiting. Those suckers can be hard to remove without damaging the cap or the brass porous vent, but the duckbill is in there.

Thanks guys, any tips on removing the brass filter other than using a pointed object from the underside?

Yup a dental pick worked just great, no damage at all to the porous brass filter. Trying to clean out the remains of what was left of the old duck bill was the hardest part.
Looks like I'll have to get another batch of duck bills, man they get used up fast.
thanks again for the help!

That's good news you were able to get it out with no problem. I've ran into a couple that just wouldn't pull out no matter what I tried. Good luck with the duck huntin' . Dan
