No good deed goes unpunished however lately I've been able to get great information from websites letting me fix some small engine problems. I put my XL 850 away for several years in favor of a smaller X3300. Got some larger trees to cut up now so I got it out, went through it, gassed it up and it started right up. OK, it ran for 3-5 seconds and then acted like it ran out of gas. I poured the gas out and checked the interior tank hose - yep rotted off and laying in the bottom of the tank. The inference here is that the fuel fees from somewhere up near the top of the tank and with the fuel hose unhooked actually is running dry. Question: I can't see where the hose was attached inside. Do I have to split that tank to get to it? If I do, is there a gasket or glue seal to reassemble the tank?

Just unscrew the 90 degree fitting in the tank and push on a new piece of line, feed it up through the tank fill hole, screw the fitting back in, install the filter, and let it drop back into the tank.

Thanks, the saw is running again. I guess at about 50 YO, the saw seems in better shape than me at 71. Sure like to know more of it's history besides me buying it from a want ad for $75. back in 1980. I have a 36" bar for it but I have run it with a 20" Oregon bar and Oregon chain...It loves madrone, my primary firewood.
