The other day I was cutting with my 750 when it threw the chain off , I replaced the chain and after that it would not drive the chain it was like I had too much tension on it as it would only move spasmodically I checked the tension and it is correct it seems like the clutch has a problem any suggestions

check the drivers, they could be buggered up from being thrown and binding in the groove.

Can you roll the chain around by hand? Smoothly?
And do you mean the saw doesnt roll the chain around smooth even by giving it plenty of throttle? Or its just jerky when you run it up off idle a little?
How bad did the chain wad up into the clutch/sprocket etc? Maybe you messed up the clutch bearing or something?
I agree with RM, start by looking at the chain and also the bar grooves and work back from there. Better yet, do you have another bar/chain combo you could just swap on it to test? That would tell you if its your bar/chain combo or something saw-wise.

Sad news to hear on such a wonderful saw. You said the chain would move spasmodically. Does the engine rev up to full power and the chain then sorta jerk and spin a bit and then stop? If the engine's revving up to speed and the chain is spinning and then stopping, then unquestionably your clutch is slipping. As RandyMac and OldZip said, ya probably have a burr somewhere on a drive link that's jamming up the movement. If what I described in the beginning here is happening, you may also be faced with a worn out or glazed clutch. A properly engaged clutch with a chain that gets up to speed on a saw like the 750 will either derail again when it snags, or break. Now if you're just kinda bumping the throttle then your clutch may be OK.

Pulled the clutch down cleaned it an removed the claze off the shoes , seemed to do the trick . but after running for a couple of hours the saw wont rev straight away as it seems to 4 stoke is that a carby prob
