OK...I have never torn into a Tilly, but all I'm trying to do is clean it up and blow out the ports. I did a bit of reading and research online, and commenced to remove the top cover. Well, it seems the diaphram stuck to the top, rather than sticking to the carb body. I read a bunch of stuff about removing the top, then sliding the rubber diaphram 1/8" towards the adjustment screws, then lifting. I see the little rubber tongues on the diaphram, but there is absolutely nothing for them to slide under on the carb body. Am I missing something or are there different configs on this carb?

You don't say what model carb you're working. The diaphragm that operates the needle valve hooks into the level and that's what it sounds like you are describing. Tell us the carb model and the saw it is from.

Some metering levers have a tang that forks around a grooved peg on the metering diaphram and others have a flat faced metering lever and the diaphram just has a little stub. As a7e stated, need to know the model carb.

Yes, I certainly should have more specific. The saw is a 1960's Super XL, blue and white. The carb is a Tillotson RK23-HS. It was purchased new by my father at Rauber's Agway in Wayland, N.Y. It worked hard for several years, and had a carb rebuild in the late 70's. It was stored from 1981 until 2006, when I decided to fire her up...and she fired right up, but the gas line was rotten and I rigged a new gas line with some acrylic line and a grommet. I failed to put a filter on it and I think I may have gotten some trash in the carb. She worked good for about a month then lost the ability to come up to speed. I intend on getting her fixed right and appreciate your help.
