Hi Fellas, I'm having trouble getting a super 650 to run. If I put a few drops of gas down the carb it fires right up. I finally got it to feed itself some gas but still runs terrible and will not stay running on its own. I rebuilt the carb as best I know how and it just does not want to play. The fuel and impulse lines are good and the carb boot appears to be OK on inspection. I did not mess with the boot just looked at it. When I first got it to run it appeared to not get enough gas now it seems to get lots of gas but still will not run right. Is anyone familiar with the WB carbs. I'm trying to find out if it is supposed to have a diaphragm in the metering side. I have several WB carbs. One has a dipgragm on the metering side and one did not. The one on the saw did not have one when I first took it apart. I put one in since the other carb had one. Not sure what the problem is with this one.
I do have another 650 that runs great. I may swap carbs to narrow down the problem.
Also it squirts chain oil like a garden hose. Is that adjustable? Never seen an oiler squirt like mad before.
Any Ideas?
Thanks.....John

Hi John, I noticed the IPL for a 650 shows a diaphram in the circuit plate assembly but the Super 650 IPL doesn't. That's interesting 'cause both are WB-2 carbs with the A-12717 part number ?? I've yet to have the need to tear into any of my 650 carbs, so sorry I can't offer any particular advice. Do you have an IPL for the saw showing the carb? I think I sent one to ya a while back, but not sure. Dan

Thanks Dan I have the IPL's Well, the saga continues. I swapped carbs with the good runner carb on to the super 650. No dice same crappy running blah! Now I'm pissed. I took carb out and removed the handle and found the boot cracked. I took a picture by the way which I may post later. Put it all back together with a new boot and is still runs like crap. I can get it to run now for awhile with the choke closed most of the way. Now I'm wondering if it was the boot AND the carb that are causing me the headaches. The only other thing I can think to do is put the good runner carb on and see what happens then. That saw runs great. Anybody know if a Homelite 750 carb will work OK on a super 650? What is the diff between a WB2 and WB9? Suggestions? Thanks John

Thought about this some more and wanted to ask if you've done a compression check and vac/pressure test on the crankcase? Hopefully you'll find that its the carb and all problems will be behind. If ya swap back that known good carb and its still running ratty, ya gotta suspect either a leak, low comp, or maybe even worse case a worn skirt.

Thanks Dan. I have not done a compression test but the saw has great compression. I may do that today.
I don't have the tools to do a vac/pressure test of the case. Where can I get them?

I checked out the other post of the carbs. Interesting.
I wonder what the result would be if a swap was made.
I know where I can get a new 750 carb.

I have an old fuel pressure/engine vaccuum gauge I use on a T fitting. For vaccuum, I use a Mityvac brake bleeder. For pressure, I use a blood pressure bulb pump. Need to fab a block-off for the carb and muffler. I use 1/8" aluminum plates since they're fairly easy to cut. Old innertube makes a good rubber gasket. Some saws you can get by with just covering the muffler outlet with rubber and then re-attaching the muffler to seal over it. On saws with an impulse line like a 650, this is usually easiest place to attach. For saws where the impulse passes through a manifold, like a 925 for instance, ya need to drill a hole and install a fitting for the line to attach.
