I have an old xl12 that i'm not sure of the fuel mixture. I run 40:1 for other saws i've used but someone told me it wouldn't be the same. anyone know what the mixture might be?

16:1 ratio only! i had one-good saw. don't cheat on the mix-do her right and mix 16:1 or you may regret it.

I have juggled between 32:1 & 40:1 quite a while I have almost always bought 2cycle oil in gallons & used a ratio rite cup to mix.
I even use it in my stihl 026 & have since the 6 bottles it came with were used up. they were 2 gallon mix bottles.
I also used a 6 pack of 1 gallon mixes that came with a Poulan I bought new but got rid of saw few weeks later.
anyway my useage was always light medium. I used to cut firewood & I used same for all my weedeaters, lawnmowers, dirtbikes,
I never use ful throttle for long periods of time. I always try to cycle engines somewhat. & let ide after a workout with a couple small blips of throttle.
soon milling will be a new ball game for constant load & I will probably definately use a 32:1 ratio..
aslo for eating smoke. I have heard some of the synthetic oils are smokeless? just the gas burns & they drip out of exhaust. I may check into if it starts bothering me later on. I have seen alot of it on some moped forums. I used to be a moped rider & averaged 20,000 miles a year as a teeneger so I am familiar with 2 stroke mixing.. lol price of fuel has me thinking of sticking one back on road to use for back & forth to work. especially a modded moped.

All I run is the old Homelites....from the 50's, 60's and 70's. I used to run only 16:1, however I did my research several years ago and also discovered the newer oils were better than just motor oil. I basically use what I call a "generous 32:1 mix...it probably would spec out to be about 28:1. I get less smoke, and all the saws run fine. Joe

I tried a 32:1 + a little and it seem to do fine, also it seems to smoke a little less.
