Just found my dad had a Homelite Super XL Automatic sitting on the shelf. It has not been used for many years.
Can someone please tell me what the gas/oil ratio should be for this saw? Can I use modern synthetic oil at 50:1?
Also, does this machine require bar oil, and if so, what kind?
Does anyone have a manual available, maybe in pdf format?
I don't know anything about this saw and any starting suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

roxie, run 32-1 in her at least i wouldnt go leaner than 40-1. bar oil is necessary for ALL saws. you should probably use bar and chain oil but tbh i have used motor oil before. the fill cap is right there next to the fuel cap up there right in front of the front handle on the super xl's (little black cap).

Hi - thanks - send you a direct e-mail.
Hope we are taking about the right machine - mine is red, not blue.
I don't know the difference, but mine says "Super XL Automatic" on the side.

All the Super XL's have the front oil fill while the XL-12's have the back fill. I have a red green & white XL Automatic that also has the front fill as on the Supers. According to Mr. Acres saw site this model was produced only in 1965 and has the felt wick fuel (inside tank wall) pickup vs. fuel line w/filter on later models.

Thank you, I didnt know what the exact differences were. still learning the acres site. I have not seen the wick fuel, sounds cool... I may have to look for one... pics would be great if you could? also what about all the copies of the homelite? like Poulan 361? Lombard Comango? & Pioneer 1100 series that I have seen? was much interchangeable? or just very close & nothing interchangeable? there may be more copies by other manufactures I just noticed these & saw how similar they are. Thank you, Randy
