Will the coil off a XL903 fit a XL850?

According to the IPLs, the 850 uses # 63998, while the 903 uses # 63625. The main difference is the 850 shows the early electronic ignition system where the 903 is conventional points/condensor. Now one thing to consider is these parts can all interchange, and may have been swapped previously. In short, if both have points, or if both have the same electonic trigger unit, then they most probably are the same coils. Another thing to consider is the entire system can be swapped; back plate, flywheel and all ignition parts. So long as all the parts match the series, it should work.

Found this 903 at a yard sale for $15. Cheap enough to try, I guess. Thanks.

Dan, what about the crank, would the cam for the points be present in both? If one has electronic from the factory, would the crank work with points? I have seen here where someone said they left off the cam when they changed to electronic. Just asking, I don't know. Another Dan

A factory electronic ignition saw won't have the points cam, so you will have to be careful when swapping parts.
