I purchased this saw in early 80's when we purchased a small farm in Glasgow, KY and had a fireplace insert for whole house heating, so I can't begin to guess how many hours it has been used. Never had a problem with anything on this saw until a week ago when it refused to start. Problem was no spaek, bought a new plug, still no spark. I began to delve into the mystery of disassembly looking for the coil/mag. Unless this has been done before, it is like a chinese puzzle. I finally got the front handle off by referring to the thread re: the carb boot which was very well done but II still have not located the coil /magneto, thus this message. The top of the housing or case is still hanging onto something and I am not brave enough yet to remove the carb and oil pump to see if that will free it up. I need advice and direction, PLEASE I miss the sound of that engine.

Hold up. You need to be removing the recoil side. The flywheel, coil, and the rest of the electrical components are under there. Shouldnt be too hard to remove. Although I havent worked on any 330's. Should only need to remove the front handle (which you stated you have done) and then I would guess 4-5 bolts around the perimeter of the starter side case and it should pull right off revealing the electricals. At least I think thats the info your looking for. Maybe some guys more familiar with the 330 can clarify.

Thanks for redirecting my effort, I should have known it would be on the flywheel side as many lawn mower shear pins as I have replaced. Since there is no spark, I will assume that it is either a shorted wire or the coil itself. I will stay in touch and thanks again. I am going to try and find a parts and assembly manual to help me get it together again

Stumped on my 330-I am attempting to reach the ignition modual. I hate having to ask this next ?, but , does the top of the case thru which the carb and oil lines pass thru , need to come off before I can reach that coil? I believe the answer must be yes but at the same time hopeing not. I must get this little running as we had 6 trees die due to the hot dry summer of '07. Also, is there any method of testing the module first before buying a new one? Thanks in advance I think I still luv my Homelite
