I have a Homelite C5 I pulled from the dumpster, put a new carb kit in it, and have been using it for the last two years for small jobs. Recently, I have been having trouble with getting it started. I have always been having to prime the carb once or twice and then it pulls fuel from the tank and runs all day, no problems. This last time, priming it once or twice isn't doing the trick and I cannot seem to pull any fuel from the tank. How does the tank come off this thing? I was looking at the schematics and cannot figure out how to take it apart and whether or not I can pull the fuel filter and fuel line out of the tank to replace it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I usually pull the filter and put about 5 PSI of pressure into the line. If it holds, it's OK if not it's either the fuel line or needle and seat. You can use vacuum too but it may not show a bad needle and seat. If it leaks down, to check further pull the line off of the carburetor and plug the line and put pressure or vacuum on it again. If it leaks down, it's the line.

sawnami - Thank you for the tips! Do you know how that tank and fuel line come apart? Looking at the diagram, I cannot tell if I can take the tank off of the front or if the whole saw has to be taken apart

Maybe this will help. I've had the front of the tank off, but not the whole thing. It looks like there are two larger bolts holding the tank to the drive case at the bottom. I'd have to look at one of mine closer.

AHA! Based on your diagram (Thank you, never seen one that clear) looks like I need to take the bolts off of the front, and then the tank will slit, then I can get inside there and replace fuel line, filters, etc...

or, you can remove the tank (2 bolts in front, part #1 on figure, two more on the left side in front area of starter cover), fish the line up through the tank filler opening and remove the filter, and then unscrew the connecter (part #2 on figure) and pull out the connector with the tank line attached. Note you'll need to remove the fuel line on the carb as you pull the tank forward. Also if there's a bumper spike, it will be easier to remove it to prevent interference with pulling the tank forward.
Either way works. The disadvantage of removing the front cover is you may need a new gasket, and there's a ton of those small screws holding the cover on. Good thing though is its a chance to clean it out.
