New member here and I have a question.... Doing some work on this XL-923 and have the carb off for a rebuild. It is a Tillotson HS92B. If you can look at the attached picture, you can see to the lower left of the throat, is a small hole like could be fit with a welch plug to seal it off from the outside. There is a drilled passage at an angle and ends smaller, like a small orfice hole in this area. That angle passage is drilled into the 'well' where the tip of the low adjustment screw is. Is this supposed to be plugged or left open from the outside? Has anyone seen this before and what is the purpose? Thanks Attachments:

HMMMM! Interesting. I looked in my Tilloson parts break downs and service manual and they do not show a welch plug for that location. If the carb mounting gasket covers it up I guess it is supposed to be sealed off. I would think it would be a good place for a vacuum or fuel leak depending on where the passages lead. If it goes to the idle circuit and the saw does not idle properly I would be tempted to seal it with a welch plug and a little fingernail polish. Thanks for your reply and help. We'll see if anyone else answers on this one? Right now I'm getting it back together after replacing the cylinder gasket. Seemed to have a mystery air leak. Finally while running it and spraying carb cleaner around the base gasket, it would run faster and faster. So 'ok', we'll have a look at the gasket. The gasket was not blown out but the cylinder lower surface had some warpage. Now its back together, but haven't put the carb back in to try it. That drilled passage mentioned above, does go right into the idle circuit well. And yes it could draw in air or leak out gas when not running. It doesn't really look like there ever was a welch plug in there and the ones that came with the kit didn't fit the size. Thanks and I'll keep listening for any other ideas...

Got the saw running and its back to the customer. It didn't run very well with the passage open, in the front of the carb. So took the carb back off again and plugged it. Much better. Could adjust the carb and would idle down nicely. Thanks
