Hello all, been lurking a while and figured I ought to post something. A neighbor who knows I like the old homelites gave me an xl100 with the grinder attachment that is in real nice shape other than it needs a carb.It has a gearbox on the clutch side,(does it even have a clutch?) a 7" grinding wheel and a bracket of sorts cast into the front of the case, not sure if something else should be there or not. The piston looks almost new, apparently it never had much use and I can see why. Looks like a real man-killer. Does anyone have any info on this saw or has anyone used one and lived to tell about it? It's a model XL100G-1A, serial 3373001. I'd kind of like to get it going, I've seen the circular saw version but not one of these - I can't imagine they made too many. Thanks for any info & have a nice weekend.

Nice Find!!! These show up on Ebay from time to time, I always wanted to pick one up, but I have no idea why. Most of these that I have seen have the XL power head, but I have seen others also. I always look (fantasize?) for stuff like this for those odd jobs you may run into. Like grinding a welded railroad track or crawling into the bowels of a bridge to do some maintenance work. Yep, its just the way my mind works......

Sorry, apparently the re-sizing went awry. Not sure why it's apart but everything is there but the carb. I can just imagine crawling inside a boiler and firing up this thing with that "muffler". Who would they have marketed this to? Still an interesting bit of Homelite history.

It looks like a circ saw with an abrasive disc Bill

Yep, the disc on it is about 1/4" thick. It has about an inch of thread on the shaft so it could certainly take a heavier one, I guess I'd have to see one in original configuration. Anyone have any literature?

Another cool saw. That big casting on the front of the case is different on mine, I wonder what it was for. Maybe some sort of stop to keep you from getting too deep into what you're doing, but heck, I've been in too deep plenty of times. Paul

I have the IPl's and possibly an orginal brochure, The term grinder confused me. It is a circular saw. Still very hard to find. I have the brushcutter and pump but not the circ saw.

Hmmm... Looks like the only difference between the grinder version and the circ. saw version is that they left off the adjustable shoe that came on the circ. saw and painted "Gas-engine driven XL grinder" on the guard instead of "gas engine-driven XL 100" as in the link posted above. I thought something on mine might be missing, I guess there was never anything there on the grinder version. Looks like the adjustable shoe would slip right on to the casting on the front of the case.

WOW, I'm speechless. Not only is the most messed up thread the board has had to date But Ive never even heard of that type of grinder, let alone seen one, good pics or not. I was able to De-bork the pics a bit, but with something this infrequently seen I think you should send them to me and Ill properly size them and fix this thread. I got everything right but one pic, it docent want to co operate.

Eric,
It might be best to just delete all the pics and have the poster email them to you or another for resizing. I have wireless internet at home and just tonight I could catch glimpes of a a few images. If they can be emailed to me I can open them on a T1 line at work and fix them.
