I got my old gear drive up and running sporting a 28" NOS bar with 404 chain. I have taken it out and it really really pulls in the wood. I found a nice 30" piece of dead mulberry to try it out in.
Now I want to know what the best kind of oil is for the gear case. I used 80-90 gear oil. I want to make sure that is the correct kind of oil or should I use 00 like a snapper gear case. I am getting lots of foam and it is leaking all over when I run the saw. I added lucas and have only seen minimal difference in the foam. The leak seems to be on the chain side of the gear case. I can't tell if it is the seal around the shaft coming out of the case or is there a air vent on that side I just haven't found?

Well it still leaks but it got a work out this weekend. I used my XL1100 to stump a 30" ash. went through it like I would expect. Really feel the weight when you have been liming all day long and then go to clean off the stump. So much power and so loud. Having the muffler against the ground really gets hot. Used the 360 to drop the 2 trunks that split about 3 feet above the ground.
