Hi: my brother has a xl701 and I have a xl902............these are both canadian saws built in quebec..........they are basically the same as the xl700 and xl901......they both have a 2: bore and mine has an auto oiler............I am not sure if my brothers has an auto oiler....
my question is what is the difference between the saws....where they just made at different times...they seem to be the same saw.....
I am not knowledgeable in the general history of the xl700 and xl901 series...........can someone clue me in..........

The large XL series started with the XL-700 and XL-800 with the two major differences being the that the XL-800 had automatic oiling and the 2 1/16" bore. Appearance wise, the 700 was blue and the 800 red. Over the years new models were introduced with new features but the series really didn't change a whole lot mechanically. The XL-923 introduce the thin rings, .024" and the XL-903 had compression release. There were several models that had some form of electronic ignition and a couple with VI - Vibration Isolated - framework. The Canadian versions had different model numbers.
