Found paint for the older red xl-12

If anybody is interested I found a spray paint the is a perfect match for the red xl-12. It matched my 1978 one perfect..

-indoor/outdoor for metal, wood and more.
-Banner orange pds24
-made by premium decor

bought at local hardware store.

Sorry for the late reply. This is great info. Ya can tell form a few previous posts, I've been a fanatic about the differing paint that Homelite has used over time. Closest stuff I've found has been Ford red for the orangish red, but its still lacks a little orange to match 100%. If you paint an entire saw, it looks perfect, but if you mix parts, they appear a little redder than original. John (Topgut) did an incredible job on a 650 using Ford red.

What hardware store did you find the premium decor brand? I'd love to try some.

Its a small ACE hardware store in my town. Ive seen the brand else where too. It was shot in the dark buy and work perfectly. I put the saw in different lighting scenarios to make sure it matched.

oh yea. I forgot to mention that there seems like the older xl-12 are more orangey red then the 1980's + model xl-12. Thats why I said my 1978 model in the thread.

I know this is an older thread, but I just bought a can of Valspar Farm Implement IH Red spray paint that I am giong to try on my C-91. Also, bought a can of Valspar General Spray in green. I have to prep some parts and primer them first. I will post some pics, hopefully some time this week.

Great thread,Im restoring a couple of SXL saws now, the closest pait I have found is Dup[i color DE 1607 engine paint, Its chevrolet orange red, almost perfect,,,

Yeah old thread but recently in my years long search for a good red mix I think I found something close! VHT's Chevy orange red from autozone. I hate to admit how many darned cans of red orange type paint I've tried and still have! To me it is very close. Just painted my Super xl 925 with it.

ar paint it is a pain i got xl 12sfrom 60s to very late i think even the blue is not the same from year to year + fade and that red orange hmhmhm//thanks you guys for doing all the hard work just get a can of likr you said be pretty close but i am down here in australia all the best to you all
