I have a homelite 550 that will not recoil. I've tried multiple times to tension the spring but after only a few pulls the rope/handle is once again trying to hang. I think the spring is shot. I've had springs break before but never just not hold tension. Suggestions/part number?
Thanks

hmmmmm, sounds a little fishy. Any chance you think the spring lock may be slipping? There's a part that has a tang to engage the spring and on the inside of it is where the pully engages with splines. It may be loose somewhere. The part number for a new spring is 12324. Pretty sure you can find aftermarket pretty cheap at places like npadist.com, but again, ya may not need a new spring.

Thanks Dan, We did check out the recoil system and it is as it should be but the spring must just be weak. I will get one and change it and let you know how I make out.
BTW, got any IPL's you would like to send me? I have several Homelites that I need quality IPL's for.
Thanks

That is odd as their one of the easiest recoils to deal with as far as tensioning goes.
How far out is the rope hanging?
