Well I just got my Super XL project back together this evening and tried to ground the plug on the engine enough to pull it over to check for spark (excellent compression) But it seems there isnt any. I bought the ignition used from Kyle at edge and engine and it was working when he took it off, when i got it all i did was change the plug boot and i gapped it with a business card when i put it on the saw. It is a blue prestolite ignition. So where should I begin looking for problems? Or am i just not grounding it well enough? Tomorrow when i get the muffler cleaned up and back on I think ill just try to put some fuel in it and give it a try, but any advice? Thanks.

A business card may be to thick to gap the coil, how many thousands is it? I use 4 thicknesses of note book paper, approx. 12 thou. Maybe the card is the same thickness??? I'm not famalier with the 'blue prestolite ignition' coil, if it's for a point ignition, Ohm test the coil, Plug lead to coil ground, plug lead to + lead, + lead to ground. Post the values you get ( I can't remember what they should be...4 drinks into the evening) someone will know. Also, check for continunity through your points

No points on this one its the later solid state model.

I think that you could still ohm test the plug lead to ground. Solder a lead with an aligator clip on the end, to the body of a known good plug. Then clip it to ground, this will make it much eaisier to test for spark. CSW

Well, I put a check light in the plug boot and grounded it on the engine and it is showing good current to the plug boot. So why the heck isnt it going through the plug itself? Thoughts anyone?

Cool Deal!! Thats a nice looking saw. All you have to do is get her broken in and let us know how she cuts. BTW, havent I seen that Anixter box somewhere?

Great, the coil was sparking fine when I took it off the saw. But if it makes trouble let me know because I will definitely help you out somehow...

Hey RBW, you may have seen that box before.... ;D
Edge, it seems to be working fine now, but thanks for the concern.
Also, I want to heat cycle the p/c a little bit, how long do u guys feel would be adequate to warm everything up? After bout three cycles I plan on just using her like regular, just a little on the rich side, does this sound like an accepatable break-in proceedure to you all?

I went and bought out another local dealer (yes, you heard me right, I said I wasn't going to but couldn't resist). Finally am able to restock 360 filters, also.

Yeah Calvin, this is the saw the filter was purchased for. It's also the one that I have been working on and off on for the last four months, so it was about time I got her running.

Seems like all 360 parts are like gold, allmost as hard to find as 750 parts. (i need a 750 piston ;D)
Red, I would heat cycle it up/down 3-4 times, letting it cool completely between runs. Also, I would vary the rpm's durring the run cycle over the entire range with only a lil bit of running in the upper RPM's.
Then you should be good to start cutting, slightly rich for the first tank as you mentioned.

RBW, how long should I make the runs (timewise), but first I have to take care of a little issue I discovered today...the carb leaks like a seive, due to sitting so long. So Calvin or Edge or anyone, carb kit? ut 10739, Zama Carb (does anyone have a kit?) Also, this seems like a bad time to ask this question, but should I have honed/scuffed the cyl with some 600 grit before installing? I first I thought no because it is a "new" factory part, but the more I think about it the less sure I am... Thanks guys.

I'm out of both the rebuild & the gasket/diaphragm kits, have more on order for next week. Calvin or RBW should have one though.

I'm soaking the gasket and diaphram in pre-mix to see if they will come around but time will tell if they are goin to, otherwise I'll probably just need the gasket/diaphram.

Does your saw have the SDC or HS? The book shows the SDC to say Homelite on it. I have bunches of carb kits, but without this info I cant be sure I have the one you need. As far as the break in, I like to get them up to temp and let them cool fully and repeat for the first 1/2 tank. Some say this is not nessary, but everything from those little airplane motors to big diesels have a break in period so I dont see why these should be different. People think cars and such arent heat cycled before delivery, and true, theirs no set prociedure done to them before you drive it, but I bet its been started and shut down 20-30 times before it hits the lot.

zama c2 carb. also, should i have honed the nos cyl before installing, i guess i never really wondered before now as it is "new" also how long do you feel it needs to run in order to fully get "up to temp" 5-10min?
