I'm up to no good, as usual. I have two push mowers sitting out back. On is a Craftsman thats only 3 years old, but has some serious engine troubles, it was very badly abused by some neighborhood kids. It has a good mowing deck on it and good wheels. The other one I dunno what it is, but it has an older Tecumseh/Eager-1 engine which I beleive to be good, and a mulch-only deck that is falling apart. I am going to attempt to transplant the good Tec motor onto the good Craftsman deck and junk the other deck. I will probably keep the Briggs from the Craftsman and mess with it, see if I can get it going again.
I'll post some pics as the project gets underway.

Well I pulled the motor from the donor mower and it looks like the deck I want to mount it to was designed to use almost anybodys engine, theres six mounting holes on it! It's also a 22 inch deck while the motor came from only a 20 inch. I will pull the spindle from the junk motor to mount on the new one, hopefully the shafts are the same size. The replacement motor also is old enough to not have a pesky deadman bar
If all works out I will have a custom mower set up the way I want it. The deck is a side discarge and I noticed how small the discharge port is, I think I'll cut out some metal to let thick grass flow out of it better. I hate mulch decks, unless Im only taking off like 3/4" they leave the yard looking like crap.
I'll post some pics as soon as my drama queen digital camera decides it likes me again.

I have the new motor mounted on the deck, and mounted the throttle control. I didn't like where the recoil was positioned, I didn't like pulling on it over the front of the mower wit my foot on the deck to hold it still, so I re-ran that through the recoil stop that was mounted on the handle from the previous motor that had a deadman bar. So now I have a unique mower with a remote handle mounted recoil and no deadman bar.
Iprimed it and turned it over and got it to fire a few times but it always dies out, sounds like carb cleaning time!

sounds like that to me too if its a briggs or tecumseh i would like to let you know i have the carb kits in stock all i need is a model and type # if briggs and a model and spec # if tecumseh
shipping for these carb kits if it can fit in a small package and you do not need it right away First class parcel always is cheaper around 2.50 - 3.50 for shipping of non emergent parts its when it goes to priority mail it is costy about 6.50 there that includes my handling fee cause price of shipping supplies aint cheap
but to get these special prices i am going to have to figure out how i can give HOH members a special shipping rate compared to non HOH members
thanks calvin

The motor that went bad was a 4 HP Briggs, one of the newer ones with the one-peice all plastic carb that you can't adjust. I hate those things. The recoil started acting up and it sounds like something internal inside the engine is very messed up, one day it ran fine and the next day it just quit, it turned over very hard, fired once and never turned over again. It belonged to a neighbor and I fully expect it had the factory break-in oil in the crankcase until it died
The replacement is a Tec thats at least mid-80's vintage, possibly older, and it seems solid aside from the carb trouble, which I should have all sorted out soon here. It's a bit light on compression, so I will just have to watch the oil levels.
