Calvin If you could make this so it was not in PDF you could sell hundreds. With pdf you have to open every file and search them individually, if it were just open, non compressed files on DVD, then when you had a P/n and wanted to know what saw it went to you could just do 1 search of the entire disk and get your answer simply and very fast.. ;D Look, Im throwing money at you.....

Yesssss... Oh how sweet that would be. A fully searchable text based IPL list to find parts interchangeability. I've thought about it, but there's just not enough hours in the day.

Actually, you CAN mass-search PDF files, it's pretty easy. But the catch is, documents must be either 1)scanned using character-recognition software, which even that scans with errors, or 2) Each parts list would have to be manually converted to text, which would mean a LOT of typing. Anyways, to search in multiple PDF's at once, in Adobe Reader, press Shift+Ctrl+F and choose the "All files in ...." option. All the files you want to search in must be in one folder. This works in Reader 8, I'm not sure about previous versions.

I've tried certain OCR apps and ultimately I end up editing and editing and editing.... In short, I don't trust the OCR to scan correctly without making mistakes. Takes a good but of time to proof-read after scans are done to ensure they are right. But, as you said, it CAN be done. Dan

now my question is is there a way to make a cd that you type the part number and it brings it up is there a program that will allow me to do this ?
i have the cd burner and cd burner software as well as the scanner to scan the ipls i just need to know what format to make this into to where it can be almost like part smart is you type in a part # and it shows what models it fits etc.
thanks calvin
wonder if i can make these into 1 database but have the database on the CD itself

Thats exactly what were after Calvin.
I dont trust the OCR either, and Ive got an excellent scanner, I dont even trust my eyes, patience or longevity to a project like this.
How many IPL's are there?
Do we even know?
What about the mini IPL's for the old time saws?
I need to import that googlie eyed smiley for times like these.....

A big probelm I see with a lot of old Homelite IPLs in PDF form is that the quality is terrible and you can't make out the part numbers, why is this?

A big probelm I see with a lot of old Homelite IPLs in PDF form is that the quality is terrible and you can't make out the part numbers, why is this? Far as I know, it's only the IPL's from ODREF.com that are like that, but everyone has downloaded them and uploaded them to their own site, so you see the same crappy IPL's all over the place.

I have seen this also.
On some, some mind you, all you need to do it enlarge them to read things clearly.
