Ok, I found this auction for a 925 on ebat the other day, looked it over and had concerns about whether it was actually a 925 or a 921-923 with 925 covers on it. This happens from time to time as the covers are interchangeable. Heres a link to the auction: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200208893191&ssPageName=ADME: The cylinder is wrong, and I mentioned this to the seller, but he feels hes right. I'm thinking 921-923 with 925 covers or a half breed clone of miscellaneous parts. Im sure of the cylinder being wrong for a 925, but tell me what you think, is the listing worded correctly? .

It looks a lot like my 925. If I could figure out how to post the pictures you could see what I mean. That being said maybe I ought to go back out to the shop and get a better look......Bob

Well I'm back from the barn/shop and i've checked out my good S925 and a carcass S925. Your right about the decomp valve. Neither have it but one I sold awhile back did. Somewhere I have the pictures of it. I did change the cylinder on it as I remember. I'm going to look for those pictures......Bob

So you're the "obsessive-compulsive Homelite fanatic" ;D. I guess I'm one also, because if you asked me, that saw does NOT have a 925 cylinder and probably not a 925 piston either. The thing that really makes a 925 unique is the thin rings piston riding in the open-non-bridged-exhaust-outlet cylinder. It may have parts from a 925, but the cylinder is definitely not correct.

AHA!!!
Ive found you out!!
I think, unless your talking about something completely different.
Just as an update, Im thinking this guy is OK, were throwing barbs back/forth via email but were both having fun.
I passed on his 655 cause I was unsure, now I wish I would have snagged it. I need it like a hole in the head, but I like that saw and it went for cheap......

LOL, I didnt know my OCD came through in my typing.
You can tell by his take on it he has a sence of humor and is probably a stand up guy, lil hard headed, but I like a man who stands his ground.

Your right Wolf,
I have a couple of those 925's also, no decomp valve on any of them either. I look at those 925's on ebay too and never seen a pic of the clutch side with a decomp valve on any 925.
Those saws always go for more money than I care to spend on one, even the ones that are going for parts. I can find them locally but they are few and far between.
You have a good eye for detail, I don't think I would have caught that one because I don't have any experience with the 921 -923.

Oh man... that's a terrible repaint on the XL. Far too deep red. The lettering could be done better too. It would be nice if the seller said he had repainted it as well as fixing the other stuff. Makes it kinda hard to trust a guy going on and on about all the repairs but not mentioning the repaint.

You definitely have sharper eyes than I do! I still can't tell its 2 different saws. Give a clue what makes it obvious.... I give up.

Oil cap. The SXL has the oil cap in the logical place, the XL-12 has it in the wrong place, you have to jab the bar in the ground to put the oil in. Ok for guys with three hands or if you have a helper, but awful otherwise.
